tell me why

you choose to remain
in the shadows

sending out your
perfidious ambassador

to bait vulnerable hearts

the charm of his eyes
the tenderness of his gaze

are nothing but worms
dangling from your hook

must you reel him back, with
another aching heart in tow?

just to hold its warm
humanness in your hands

so you can approximate
what it must be like

to feel.
