Breaking Gender Norms: A Pakistani Woman’s Journey to Success and Advocacy
From an early age, I was intensely aware of the restrictions society imposed on me because I was a girl. I was expected to concentrate on housework and other stereotypically feminine responsibilities, whereas my brother was encouraged to follow his interests and passions.
This was especially difficult for me because I had a deep desire to learn and explore the world around me. I wanted to know more about science, technology, and the arts, but I was told that these were not things that girls should be interested in.
My family’s expectations for me were narrowly defined. I was to get married and have kids, despite the fact that I wanted to pursue an education and a career. The challenges I faced are common obstacles for many women throughout Pakistan.
As I grew older, I began to realize that these limitations were not only unfair but also detrimental to my future. I knew that I wanted more from life than just marriage and motherhood. I wanted to make a difference in the world, to create something that would leave a lasting impact. But as a girl, these dreams seemed impossible.
