Don’t Rely on Your Emotions to Stay Motivated for Long Term Goals

What is motivation?

It’s the willingness to do something. Individuals are motivated based on some desired outcome. We act a certain way because we desire the attainment of something.

Take writing for example.

Maybe you’re a writer because putting your words on the page brings you a sense of personal fulfillment. Perhaps you want to see yourself grow as an author. You could want to bring about social change through your work.

There’s no denying the myriad of reasons there are to write, but even when you have that sense of purpose, the challenge of implementing your goal must still be met.

Motivation demands that there be optimism. It also often necessitates the presence of other emotions that fuel your willingness.

The truth remains that when it comes to achieving a goal, consistency is key.

Staying motivated is tricky.

We want to have a steady supply of motivation, especially if we have some long-term goal or venture. The reality, however, is that motivation ebbs and flows along with our energy and our emotional states.
