come closer

I am bacon-wrapped pain
and
icing-topped sorrow

and sometimes, when
you feign fortitude

I am the hurled remains of pizza on a white wall

you can devour that pepperoni!
it’s only been on the floor since last fall

feast your eyes on my delectability
let me dissolve in your eager saliva
take some TUMS to calm the rumbling
grumbling, you are my bumbling fool

oh come on

so what if I am your mess and your undoing too

who else grabs your banal vicissitudes
takes them along into the twists
and turns of your tummy

far enough away from that pesky memory
to be forgotten, at least momentarily
