Her First Foray Into Love
A Short Story
Ahmed was the most beautiful boy she had ever seen in her life. His smile inspired a tornado of nervousness and anticipation in her stomach.
To make things even better, he lived in a house just two blocks from hers.
Aasira knew she was going to fall madly in love with him from the first time he came over to her house with his parents. During the entire dinner, she stole glances at him to see if he too was looking at her.
He was. Often.
“Aasira, please get some more rice from the kitchen,” her mother said, but Aasira was too preoccupied with her daydreams to hear.
“Aasira,” her mother repeated, this time more sternly.
“Yes?” she replied, hiding her annoyance at being interrupted from her vision of Ahmed reaching for her hand across the table, in front of everyone.
“Get more rice from the kitchen.”
“Oh. Yes, I’m getting it now.”
As she looked in various pans to find the rice, she heard a voice behind her. “Hey.”
The hair on the nape of her neck rose, and her eyes widened. It was Ahmed’s voice. She turned around, hoping that her face wouldn’t give away the excitement shooting through her body.
