Is Imposter Syndrome Getting in the Way of Your Success?
Low self-worth can be triggered at any point in your life.
Imposter Syndrome is marked by persistent feelings of inadequacy and low self-worth, even when you have evidence proving that you’re a capable person. Dealing with it is undeniably tough, and it can become a nefarious obstacle between you and your goal.
The horrible feelings that accompany this syndrome can have different origins. You may have learned to doubt yourself at a young age. Maybe you were constantly belittled. Others might have convinced you that being perfect was the only way you would be accepted.
You could also be in an environment filled with people who don’t have much in common with you. Even if you are skilled and capable, being the only woman in an all-male computer science classroom or a person of color in a predominantly white company can be isolating.
Seriously. Imposter syndrome can make you question yourself in ways you never had before.
The need to belong is very human. Imposter syndrome can make you believe that you don’t belong in a group of successful, accomplished people.
