A Poem

here’s your lesson:

girls are diamonds

appraised by the outside world
and apprised of their value

learn little girl

you wear your worth on your skin

quiet little girl

all you can do from the inside out
is diminish yourself

no, do not explode
your anger is a disgrace

if you must be hysterical
implode instead

become a receptacle
for the shreds of your identity

here is your allotted personality:
amenable, amiable, attractive

anything else is outside of scope

come on, pucker up
can I get a smile

that’s not a request.

there-

you’re a proper woman now.
