The Hallway of Torment
Where’s the exit?
The princess, the knight, and the witch entered what seemed to be a basket for people. As the secretary-witch closed the door, she shrieked a “buckle up newbies” at the both of them.
Violet gripped the sides of the basket, facing Roberto. “What do you mean buckle up?,” she asked.
Without waiting for a response, Roberto secured Violet’s arms into two buckles lining the basket on either side of her. He then did the same for himself.
“We’re ready,” he said.
The witch watched on, a smirk on her face. “Well this isn’t the traditional story, is it?” She locked eyes with Roberto. He turned his face.
Violet, consumed with worry for June, whispered, “Please. Let’s go.”
The witch pulled on a dangling rope, and Violet felt the sudden jolt of a downward fall. She tightly shut her eyes. She heard one long, cacophonous shriek. The sound drowned out any thought in her mind bar the sensation of terror. The buckles around her arms did a good job of keeping her in the basket, but her heart lurched into her stomach. She squeezed her eyes tighter and attempted courage.
The basket came to just as sudden of a stop, and Roberto quickly unbuckled Violet’s restraints. She massaged her wrists and ran onto solid ground.
