A Poem

an amygdala

past the disagreements
and angry silences

I walk with you

past the litany of
unmade reparations

I walk with you

past the time
we squandered
bruising each other
instead of healing

I walk with you

past our imperfections
our broken promises
our shared incorrigibility

I walk with you

past the barricade
between the living
and the dead

I still
walk with you

you will never
be alone

you are my home
in this world now

and

I will always

walk with you.
