Your Wrist Is No Place For A Hair Tie

Apparently, the habit can lead to serious health problems

I have a particularly bad habit of keeping my elastic hair ties around my wrist for easy access. This is because I like my hair loose when I’m relaxing or taking a break, but I want it far away from my face when I’m working.

Although hair ties have often left marks around my wrist, I didn’t really consider this a problem until others advised me that my habit could cut off blood circulation in my hand.

Even then, I was a little skeptical about the actual health risks associated with hair ties on the wrist, so I decided to do a little research on my own.

Hair ties can reduce blood circulation

From what I found, the answer is yes, hair ties can, at least theoretically, hamper your blood circulation. There aren’t many documented cases (thankfully) of people losing hands due to hair ties cutting off their circulation, but the science is strong behind why this is a real possibility.

In the end, the cost-benefit analysis comes down to the individual, but it might be time to consider another option for storing hair ties.
